Food & Drink
Food and drink – from full English to lighter bites
Elder Grove B & B has a reputation for one of the best full English breakfasts in Ambleside, the Lake District and indeed Cumbria. It is served in our atmospheric green slate dining room, mined from local stone.
The full English breakfast
Served 8.15am – 9.15am. This includes dry cured bacon, hand-made local flavoured black pudding and Cumberland sausage, which arrives to us in the traditional coil. These are supplied by Garside’s butcher of Ambleside. You can have your eggs fried, scrambled or poached. All are guaranteed to be free-range from Bannerigg Farm, Windermere.
Help yourself to yoghurts, fresh fruit and cereals from our breakfast bar. The fresh bread for your toast comes from Peggy’s Bakery in Ambleside, baked using Carr’s flour. Our milk is from Town End Dairy, Windermere. They buy at a fair price from North Lakes Foods who source their products from Cumbrian farmers. The butter is made by Winter Tarn Farm at Glassonbury near Penrith.
To complement our soft water, we use hand roasted coffee picked loose leaf teas supplied by family-run local supplier Penningtons . The Pennington family has its roots in Kendal and the English Lake District, dating back to 1709 and Elder Grove are proud to work with an independent, family-owned and family-run local business to supplying beverages to our guests.
Home-made jams and award-winning marmalade
We make all our jams using local fruit such as damsons from the Lyth Valley. We have a collection of Silver and Bronze accreditations from the annual Dalemain Marmalade Festival.
Do you fancy a lie-in? Just want tea or coffee and some toast later? We serve a lazy breakfast in the bar area from 9.30am until noon.
Sustainable and responsible
To keep food waste to a minimum we prepare and cook all breakfasts to order. We also compost our vegetable waste.
