From birthday celebrations to a base for walking adventures, Elder Grove holds happy memories for many people. We are lucky to welcome back many lovely guests from all over the world. Hear what they like best about our Ambleside B and B:

John & Lorna

“Stayed for 3 nights at Elder Grove as our first holiday in nearly 2 years due to the pandemic. What a treat it turned out to be, a superb establishment with quality decor and fittings. The hosts Matt and Lucy were charming, friendly and very professional in all aspects. The location is excellent for Ambleside centre and beyond, and with private parking on site Elder Grove is the perfect place to stay.

Breakfast was first class enhanced by the use of local produce with all permutations available to order. The review could go on and on but in essence, this is a superb venue where the highest of standards are being maintained throughout. Elder Grove is strongly recommended for those looking for a well run, quality establishment at a sensible price.”

“I thought you were lovely hosts and made us feel very welcome.  Elder Grove is in a great location.  Super comfy bed and a good selection of hot drinks in the room (loved the biscuits).  Everything spotless and the breakfast was first class. Although we only stayed overnight we would certainly recommend and will return.”

Just a note to say thank you for our stay 6th-8th December.  This is our second time at the Elder Grove and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay thank you.  We particularly liked the little details such as the hot water bottle, the umbrellas (needed in December or any month in the Lake District!), how you can use the hotel for a swim and the fabulous breakfast. Both the staff, Matt and Lucy are all lovely and we’ll surely be back.

“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Elder Grove. Matt and Lucy were very welcoming and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable.

The room was very comfortable with a modern bathroom and everything we needed for our stay. It also had a lovely view out over Loughrigg Fell. The honesty bar is a great idea, and we used this on both nights we stayed. We would not hesitate to recommend Elder Grove and we will hopefully visit again soon. “

Our first B&B experience in Ambleside & we could not have picked a better place to stay for 5 nights.
The additional health protocols that Matt & Lucy have introduced to cope with Covid requirements didn’t detract from an extremely pleasant stay.
Breakfast at Elder Grove offers a great selection of local produce from a comprehensive menu is very impressive, and it’s a breakfast that sets you up for the rest of the day.
The on site parking is a big plus also for this B&B, a B&B that we are more than happy to recommend.
Elder Grove is ideally situated for a stroll into Ambleside as a starting point for a number of walks & also a great selection of restaurants for later in the day.

We really enjoyed our stay with you over the weekend.  Often it’s those seemingly little touches that add to the quality of a stay such as the organic herbal teas, the gorgeous Pure Lakes products, the fluffy white towels, using local produce for a wonderful breakfast and the welcome on arrival to name but a few.

We hope to return one day and will recommend you.

Ps. The quirky little wooden mouse made us smile too!

We have just enjoyed a further stay at Eldergrove, only several weeks from our first encounter. Our weekend was first class with constistency being the operative word. Matt and Lucy are superb hosts behind which is a quality establishment in every sense. The breakfasts are amazing with impeccable service. Ambleside center is only a few minutes away with all the usual amenities and with very inclement weather over our weekend stay, returning to the warmth and comfort provided at Eldergrove was an absolute joy.

We strongly recommend Eldergrove as the number one spot.

Many thanks, John and Lorna.

“We booked a weekend break staying at the Elder Grove. The Elder Grove has its own car park, which we found an added bonus, and is situated just a 2 minute walk from the centre of Ambleside…All in all, we had a brilliant weekend which was very much helped by staying at the Elder Grove. Thank you Matthew, Lucy and your team. “
